Okay, I'll post my comments as planned with Becky.

Anyway, its been 1 and half year since we're together as a cell. Its like so long already and yet feels so short. Thanks to FaithInc, the year passed so fast cause by Monday i'll be looking forward to cell on Saturday. Yep, surely, the cell wouldn't be so fun without the leaders! Our fun-loving Joanne, cute and not straight ChingYee, Naruto-Guy Issac and the older Andy Teo. They have helped us grow alot in Christ, Sacrifice their times coming to Youth, Giving up money for us and many many other behind-the-scene act. This cell, Faith Inc will be missed by all too! People like Becky, Songjie, Limin, Zongxun, Daryl and many many actives cell-mates, thanks for the enjoyable time in cell.

Hello, Faith-Inc!

Our cell has split into 3 individual cells. Therefore, I want to type something about the cell. Becky will do that too.

Its been great to be in Faith-Inc, all though at first it was just very worrying how the cell would work out, like now. But after awhile, we knew each other more and grew closer and closer with each other. It was you guys that made the years goes fast. I mean, every Sunday, I would already start looking forward to cell. I've made friends with many people because of this cell. People like SongJie, Becky, Limin, JieYi, Ian and many many other people. Its great to know them and have them as cell-mates. Though we are all going to be in different cells, I hope that our friendships will not be broken.

today's SWEAT-EAT-OUT was cool, very very cool.

even though we kinda lost to The other Cell, Living Stones in the beginning.

But when we played against Sean's Cell(Sec 2s.)

They said that we were 12 all,

which i think its kind of true.

Its too rough until we didn't know the exact score.

so we had this second time of 5 Mins.

to the one that score the most goals.

Yeah.

and we won.

of Cos, Living stones won all the way.

SO initially, we were suppose to VS them.

But in the end,

They decided the whole zone VS the 18s.

Of cos, We lost to the 18s.

But None-the-Less, IT WAS A REALLY GOOD GAME!

but it was really soft till i have to put in all my heart to hear it.

even right now, He is Speaking.

Somehow, it is a privilege for us to hear the voice of God.

Leadership Gift #1: Pastors!

Pastor = shepherd
Pastoral = countryside, to do with sheep, rural

I'll try to keep this short and simple. Pastors are-- *breaks out into the infantry song* "the bedrock of our army, fighting to keep our people free, committed to the independence of our people, they are the men from the Pastoral Team" (!)

Haha. They are shepherds, in other words. Their job? To care for, feed, and help to nurture injured sheep. To look for sheep when they are lost. They thus do a very important function in the Body: to care for people, to call the other Christians when they are sick, to listen to their problems, to buy food for them if they're hungry, to cry together with them, to scold them sometimes when the sheep really deserve it, etc etc. They are your foster parents, in a spiritual sense.

Something I forgot to mention--all the eldership giftings, btw, are not limited to the respective elders. i.e. Pastors' primary job is to care for sheep, but that doesn't mean we can all hands-off and let the pastors do all the caring. In fact, ALL of us are called to love one another as Christ has loved us. So I would say that all the eldership functions in fact point to us as Christians: we're supposed to be fulfilling all 5 functions. It's just that in this case, Pastors are particularly good (and specialised) in loving people: it flows naturally from them and is their unique strength. They thus are role models for us in caring for people, and they are also the subject specialists who can train us to love people more effectively (and to develop the heart of care towards others, which is even more important).

Hi brothers and sisters,

As I promised, I'll take this chance to explain some things about the leadership structure of the Church (the church as a whole), and in so doing, explain how The Outreach functions. As usual, there are always a few key preliminaries to be said:

1. There is no absolute biblical model. In The Outreach, we try to be as biblical as possible, but what you will notice is that i) almost all church models point to the same Scripture passages for their authentication and ii) even your New Testament churches followed a variety of models. So what we can try to do is to identify certain models that fit the biblical pattern, weigh pros and cons, and decide on the one that is the most relevant for our people in Singapore.
2. Church structures are usually cultural rather than set in stone. Many church practices are that way--the early church used to use the format of the synagogue as a pattern for worship. But some churches use church organs to sing, some believe music should be forbidden altogether, and some use state-of-the-art equipment as part of honouring God. Honestly, the Bible has nothing against all of these methods. So what we can see is that the Bible allows us to innovate with some of these things, expressing what we feel by the symbols and practices of our day. In other words, the principle we should take from this is that our God is forever relevant to society--he is able to accept our changing practices and means of honouring him. What matters is what is inside, the reasons and thoughts behind each practise/innovation. So our church structure is not perfect too. (I'll dare to say that) it is highly innovative, considering the standards of our day, but it's not set in stone, and when it outruns its effectiveness (perhaps in a century or two), then it might be time to change it.
3. Any church structure change should be gradual rather than a overhaul. Overhauls are painful. And usually, they are only needed when the church becomes so outdated that it had better re-start a new way of doing things. My sincere hope for us as one of the churches of God is that we won't wait for crises to happen before we start innovating with structure. Innovate gradually, changing as we develop, so that we can be more and more effective and faithful to God's call for the church.

Now having said that, the Bible states 5 key leadership positions: the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher (Eph 4:11-14). This list is non-exhaustive, but it states some of the most important leaders within any church. These leaders are also called "elders" (Acts 14:23, 1 Tim 3, 1 Pet 5:1-- "I too am an elder"). In general, this word elder connotes 2 things:

i) The word itself connotes that the person is a 'senior' in the faith, someone relatively more spiritually mature than others in the church. But how long is long enough? Acts 14:23 seems to connote that these elders were appointed 1-2 years after becoming Christians--which is pretty short for us today! What we can take from this is that A) it's relative: an elder can be someone slightly more mature than the rest, and appointed an elder by virtue of the fact that there's no one more 'elder' than him; B) in the Outreach, elders are usually appointed, with the first and binding guideline that they are quite mature in the faith (between 8-15 years as a Christian, but as from the Scripture above, exceptions are also possible), rather than because "there's a job that needs to be done". So anyone who is an elder needs to demonstrate that in terms of the faith, he/she is not a novice. And it is possible for elders to be appointed without portfolio, since the need to get work done is not the top priority in choosing an elder.

ii) Given that the term seems to overlap with the 5-fold ministry in Ephesians, we can conclude that as a second priority, most of the elders would end up taking up leadership positions one way or the other, where they will use their 5-fold gifts God has given them to get their jobs done. (More on that later.)

iii) Given the fact that the elders we hear about can be part-time (like those in Acts 14) or full-time (1 Peter), we conclude that part-time or full-time is not what defines an elder. An elder should be part-time or full-time according to what God has called him towards.

(A note: Here we are crossing some traditional lines. People have usually assumed elders to be part-timers, and "Pastors" to be full-timers. But the Bible gives very little evidence to support this view. In fact, the Bible seems to indicate that Pastors are just one (although an important one, at that) of the 5 leadership positions that are meant to help the church develop towards maturity (Eph 4). So IMHO, it would be better to call elders according to their proper giftings, rather than to lump them all together and call them "Pastors", when they really might not be very pastoral at all. --> more details on this later.)

Christians in Singapore, listen! You should not be this conflicted about the AWARE debacle. It appears that a few churches have already taken the opportunity to preach on the issue of homosexuality from the pulpit. Some Christians have also been rattling on about it being time to make a stand and be counted for what one truly believes.

So this is me making a stand right here. I have been a Bible-believing Christian for 25 years now. I want first to acknowledge fellow believers who, like me, are shocked, angered, and saddened by the takeover and feel that their faith has been hijacked and their views ignored. I know that a lot of such affected Christians are out there. There is also another group which may not agree with the new team's tactics but admires its fervour or sympathises with it for the heat it has been getting.

But, most of all, I want to address a crucial third party: Christian women who have been encouraged to stand up and be counted for their beliefs. I wish to appeal to their good sense in these last hours. You may be one of these and have even joined, or are planning to join, AWARE to help swing the votes in favour of the new ex-co on Saturday(which was ytd -.-ll). Especially if I am describing you, please read on!

Yes, there are times when a Christian needs to make a courageous stand – but, in every event, always ask yourself: For what cause is this? What context does it serve? The current scenario is not one where we are being asked what our beliefs on certain issues are or whether Christianity and homosexuality are compatible or we are being mocked or discriminated against. It is a simple context where a group of well-meaning Christians infiltrated a secular organisation in order to be in a position to dictate their own values in its daily running. In this light, what a Christian may feel about issues like homosexuality is besides the point!

As a secular body, AWARE rightly cannot have a vision that treats women from different backgrounds through the outlook of just one religious system. Indeed, I dare say that an appropriate Christian response is to resist the actions of these Christians. Just as God gave every person free choice and the opportunity to believe, we ought to support the sanctity of this right for others to make up their own minds and live their own lives. Just as we do not force the Christian faith down someone's throat against his or her will, we should not take over a non-religious organisation for the single purpose of making others unlike us behave as we believe. To do this would be a gross misapplication of the message of Jesus.

If you support the new ex-co's actions, be aware that you are sending a string of possibly irreversible wrong signals to every Singaporean. Consider carefully whether you are willing to shoulder the responsibility of damages that would affect the longstanding good work of Christians in Singapore. Since the government has chosen not to be involved in the matter so far, whatever happens will be seen clearly by all as the response of particular sectors of society.

Here is my short list of obvious implications:

[1] Support the new ex-co, and you are effectively saying that you condone its quasi-corporate act of infiltration, with related strategies of secrecy, disinformation, moral coercion, and fear-mongering. You are saying that you support its less-than-Christian covert moves more than traditionally Christian ones like dialogue, open engagement, honesty, and clarity.

[2] Support the new ex-co, and we will go down a slippery road with wide-ranging repercussions for all. Don’t believe for a moment that the manoeuvring will stop here. What this invites others to see is that infiltration is the most effective way for small groups of like-minded individuals to seize power quickly -- and where will this end? What is to stop any religious or ideological group from doing the same to any social institution at every level? In the long run, who do you think loses?

[3] Support the new ex-co, and you potentially make light of the freedom that is God’s gift to every human being. Against your best intentions, you may send out instead the message that we Christians think that we know better than everyone else and that we are willing to outflank, overpower, and overwhelm if we do not get our way.

[4] Support the new ex-co, and, if they stay and behave as predicted, you will be directly responsible for undoing the trust that many Christians have taken years to build with their non-Christian friends. This is a trust built on mutual respect. You will have made the Gospel of Christ more difficult to hear for years to come because people will think that they know what it is about. You will have created a new generation of Christ-haters.

This matter, in short, is not to be treated lightly. Jesus tells us all to be "wise as serpents, and harmless as doves". There are times to be passionate and helpful in a gungho way, but this is not the time. Christians can be wrong about many things too. So please, by all means, pray for the AWARE debacle to be resolved amicably and for Christians in AWARE, but do not, in the name of our common faith, go in blind support of other Christians because you are Christian!

as said by joanne(:, the follow are the directions to wendy's house( for those of you who are not going for the prawning)

Details:

Wendy's address is 23 Elias Road, #08-05 Ris Grandeur.

If you are coming straight from church, these are the directions:

Step 1: Take 53 from church (bus stop next to the park)
Step 2: Board the bus
Step 3: Bus will travel along the expressway, then exit Pasir Ris (bus journey takes slightly more than 20 mins)
Step 4: Once bus exits Pasir Ris, alight at the 4th bus stop (they will be able to see an Exxon Mobil Petrol Station across the road). And her place is directly behind the petrol station
Step 5: Register themselves at the security stop and walk straight towards the swimming pool
Step 6: Keep a lookout for the bbq pits (located right in the middle of the pool)

For those of you coming from Pasir Ris MRT station, these are the directions:

Step 1: From the MRT station itself, once you tap your Ezylink card, exit to your right
